Institute of Cultural Properties of the University of Tokyo signed an MOU

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Research Institute of Cultural Properties, Teikyo University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (Baku, Azerbaijan).
The Institute employs many staff members engaged in excavation and surveys of Azerbaijan's ruins, which are of great international interest, and cultural heritage protection, and is conducting numerous international collaborative research projects. However, there are still few experts in natural science analysis, and progress in the investigation of underwater ruins is awaited. The Department of Caspian Archaeology was established to advance research focusing on underwater ruins. To promote international cooperation in these fields, Kazuya Yamauchi, Director of Institute of Cultural Properties at our university, and Farhad Kiriyev, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of Azerbaijan, signed a MOU to promote international cooperation.

In the future, we aim to achieve sustainable capacity building, such as by providing technical training in the exploration of underwater ruins in the Caspian Sea and inviting young Azerbaijan researchers to Japan for training.
