On Saturday, September 21st and Sunday, September 22nd, 2024, at the 14th Chugoku-Shikoku Clinical Engineering Society, held at the Item Ehime Ehime International Trade Center (Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture), Tomonori Ikubo (3rd year Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology) won the Outstanding Presentation Award. Ikubo is conducting research in the laboratory of Keizo Wanai, Assistant Professor in Medical Engineering Course at the Teikyo University Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Department of Medical Technology At the conference, he gave a presentation titled "Comparative Study of Dialysis Catheters and Blood Infusion Cannulas in Small Dogs Using a Simulated Circuit."
Assistant Professor Wanai's laboratory is actively engaged in research into the cardiovascular and metabolic fields in veterinary medicine, a new field for clinical engineers, with a particular focus on the treatment of small dogs in veterinary Surgery surgery. Using a simulated circuit, Ikubo compared the performance of a 14G dialysis catheter and an 8Fr blood infusion cannula as alternative cannulas suitable for small dogs weighing less than 3 kg. The results showed that the two may have equivalent performance at flow rates of 300 mL/min or less. The research was highly praised, leading to the award.
It is expected that this research will make a significant contribution to the development of new treatment options in veterinary cardiac Surgery.
