On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Pakui Seminar of the Department of Department of Political Science Faculty of Law Teikyo University, invited three guest speakers from two organizations that work with local governments to solve local issues, to give lectures on the topics of food waste and employment for people with disabilities.
Takehiro Sato, representative of mix`SDG, which works to combat food waste in collaboration with local governments in the Tama region, primarily in Sagamihara City, spoke about how, with the cooperation of government agencies and other organizations, they are utilizing disaster preparedness food stockpiles held by companies that are nearing their expiration date, and working with children's cafeterias and events to reduce food waste. Ryo Kuki and Takuma Niibori of the general incorporated association Social Farm Millet Road spoke about the operation of a business that provides employment support for people with disabilities in the Tama region, and the situation on the ground at their Type B Continuing Employment Support Project. This lecture provided an opportunity for seminar students to reaffirm the importance of solving local issues and welfare policies.
The three Senior Assistant Professor who gave talks this time will also be helping with the planning of the SDGs lunch box "Cutting-edge Disaster Food" that the Pakui Seminar will be selling at the Seisha Festival to be held on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th. We also helped with the preparations for the project, such as bringing in supplies.
The Pakui seminar believes that "there is much to learn through interactions with many people and through practical experience," and will further deepen its research into local government through this lecture and the practical experience at the Seisha Festival.
