On Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, Assistant Professor Munehiro Kugimiya Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science Teikyo University, paid courtesy visits to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), respectively.
For seven years, Assistant Professor Kugimiya has supported and mentored Carlos Yulo (2nd year, Faculty of Medical Technology), who won the first gold medal for a Philippine man in the men's floor exercise and vault gymnastics events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
During his visit to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, he spoke with Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuya Endo about Carlos's success at the Paris 2024 Olympics and future forms of international exchange. During his visit to the PSC, he spoke with Olivia "Bong" Coo about promoting sports and talent development. Reflecting on his visit, Assistant Professor Kugimiya said, "I witnessed the power of sports to bring people together and engage them, and I realized the potential of sports in the Philippines. First, I would like to contribute to the future by developing the next generation of coaches, promoting gymnastics, the foundation of sports, and building a system for talent development at the new facility made possible by the Sport for Tomorrow (SFT) program. Furthermore, I would like to work with related organizations to explore new international cooperation that is in line with culture and to establish a model for Southeast Asia."
Teikyo University will continue to promote international exchange and contribute to society through sports.
