In March 2024, Nakanishi Hodaka, Special Professor the Social Cooperation Sector Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization at Teikyo University, Toda Yuko, Senior Assistant Professor at the same institute, Mikata Kohei, Senior Assistant Professor in Department of Business Administration at the Faculty Faculty of Economics Owaki Junichi, Senior Assistant Professor in Department of Economics at the same faculty, and a group of research collaborating students from the Mikata and Owaki seminars visited the Osaka headquarters of UHA Mikakuto Co., Ltd. to report on the results of their business management research on promoting the company's liquid toothpaste, "UHA Shita Clear."
UHA Mikakuto Co., Ltd. is a leading Japanese confectionery manufacturer, with main products such as Shigekix, Corolo, and e-ma throat lozenges. In recent years, the company has also been focusing on healthcare, and has developed the oral care material "DOMAC" through joint research with the University's Medical Mycology Research Center. "DOMAC" is expected to improve oral hygiene by reducing the number of bacteria in the oral cavity and tongue coating by inhibiting the growth of Candida fungi. The company has also released "UHA Shita Clear," a liquid toothpaste that utilizes "DOMAC," which also has etiquette benefits for general users, such as reducing bad breath.
Therefore, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, UHA Mikakuto and Teikyo University signed a joint research agreement under the research theme of "Exploring new ways of promoting and branding student-centered industry-academia collaboration products" to achieve the SDGs GOALS of "Good health and well-being for all" and "Quality education for all." Using "DOMAC" and "UHA Shitaclear," which were jointly developed by the two parties, as subjects, the research has been conducted with the aim of promoting the societal spread of health activities, with Nakanishi Hodaka, special Professor at Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization, as the research leader.
In February 2024, an industry-academia collaborative research exchange workshop was held at the University's Hakone Seminar House, with Mr. Yasuharu Matsukawa, Executive Officer of UHA Mikakuto Co., Ltd., Mr. Toshiaki Sasaki, Leader of the Bio-Product Development Department at UHA Mikakuto Co., Ltd., and research collaborators consisting of students and alumni from the University's Sankei and Owaki seminars. Then, in March 2024, the results of research into promotional POP ideas for "UHA Shita Clear," which had been thoroughly considered in classrooms and at the workshop, were presented at UHA Mikakuto's Osaka headquarters. Mr. Matsukawa commented, "There were several proposals that could be reflected in sales promotion measures from next year onwards. Thank you for your heartfelt presentation."
This research is unique in that it is an industry-academia collaborative research project led by students from the Mikata and Owaki seminars, and aims to give back to society Practical learning education of our university. In the future, our university will continue to strengthen its social and industry-academia collaborations and connect the university's "knowledge" to society by promoting the integration of the humanities and sciences, collaboration and cooperation that transcends academic fields, and the creation of a cross-campus research and education system, while disseminating the results of education and research aimed at solving the many social issues that are piling up.
