Students from Hachioji CampusArt Department participated in research conducted by our university faculty as technical collaborators.

Members of the Art Department at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus Faculty of Medical Technology conducting a project called ``Prehospital Preparation,'' a parenting support program that guides children who are reluctant to see a doctor Assistant Professor a positive manner (Japan Department of Sport and Medical Science for the Promotion of Science, Scientific Research We provided technical cooperation in the production of picture books and pamphlets to help children who are afraid of going to the dentist feel safe going to the dentist, as part of the Grant-in-Aid for Fundamental Research (C) Research Project 23K02315 Grant. The process involved writing a story for a picture book based on a dental visit video that had already been produced, layering the structure with rough drawings and text manuscript, and then drawing and coloring using an app called CLIP STUDIO PAINT.

Uchiyama Assistant Professor and all the members of the club held an initial meeting in July and August last year, and came up with several ideas based on the common understanding of "how to convey the message to children". While each member of the club had a different style, skill and pace of production, the students who managed the work spent about six months to produce the picture book. Some members outputted their studies at Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education, some drew pictures for someone else for the first time, and some remembered their own experiences of dental examinations when they were small children.

We have created two types of picture books, one with only pictures and one with text, so that it can be widely used not only in kindergartens and children's centers, but also in hospitals and developmental support centers. The club members said, ``If what I love can help someone else,'' ``I want to use this experience when I become a parent,'' and ``I hope that as many children as possible will read the picture books we created.'' I worked on this with the idea that I would no longer be afraid of the dentist.

In future research, we will consider how to use picture books in various settings such as childcare settings, local child care support settings, and medical settings. It is hoped that by reading this picture book, as many children as possible will be able to visit the dentist without fear.
