Ekiden Club Shines in the 100th Tokyo-Hakone Ekiden Race

In a remarkable display of tenacity and skill, Teikyo University's Ekiden (Road Relay) Club secured an impressive 12th place finish during the outbound race of the 100th Tokyo-Hakone Round-trip University Ekiden Race on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. This marks the 25th participation for the university, showcasing a consistent commitment to this prestigious competition for the 17th consecutive year.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as this year saw the lifting of the four-year ban on vocal cheering. The event's vitality was further heightened with enthusiastic cheering activities from each university at both the starting and finishing points. Teikyo University's contribution to the spirited ambiance included the participation of the school's brass band, Cheerleading Club, and supportive faculty members, all rallying to encourage the Ekiden (Road Relay) Club as they prepared for the challenging tournament.

Thanks to strong performances by fourth-year students Nishiwaki Shota (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) in the first section and Suetsugu Kaito (4th year, Faculty of Economics) in the fourth section, the team steadily improved their time and finished in 12th place on the first leg, just 5 seconds behind the 10th-placed university, which had already secured a seed position.
We appreciate your continued support on the return leg tomorrow, Wednesday, January 3rd.
