In a unique collaboration, students from Teikyo University's Faculty of Liberal Arts, specifically the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Letters, recently participated in a thought-provoking session on the "Sociology of Gender." The class, facilitated by Professor Shingo Kukimoto, aimed to unravel the complexities of diversity, challenging conventional notions of sexuality while envisioning a more inclusive future for society.
Led in partnership with the NPO ReBit and Kiehl's, a skin care brand under L'Oréal Japan Co., Ltd., the collaborative class delved into the theme of "Diversity and Us - Creating an inclusive university for SOGI." SOGI, encompassing sexual orientation and gender identity, became the focal point for students seeking a deeper understanding of fostering inclusivity within the university's vibrant community.
Professor Kukimoto, at the helm of the "Sociology of Gender," encourages students to question the status quo surrounding sexuality, fostering a critical exploration of societal norms. The goal is not merely to accept the current state of affairs but to envision a society and systems where differences in sexuality are embraced.

During the lecture, students engaged passionately with the topic, realizing the profound importance of crafting an environment that allows each individual to be authentically themselves. In the context of a university setting, where diverse individuals converge, the need to create a space where everyone feels comfortable regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity resonated strongly.
