Exploring Medical Simulations and Cultural Exchange at Teikyo University November 22, 2023 In a unique intersection of medical education and cultural exchange, Teikyo University played host to Mr. Pedro Pinto from "Take the wind," a prominent Portuguese medical education software development company. The Teikyo Simulation Education and Research Center (TSERC) set the stage for a special class, bringing together students from various disciplines for a day of immersive learning. This special session was seamlessly integrated into the emergency medicine simulation training class, led by Professor Ichiro Kaneko, Head of the Simulation Education and Research Center at the School of Medicine. Notably, the event aligned with Teikyo University's ongoing collaboration with the University of Coimbra in Portugal, marking an initiative to foster educational exchanges.

The participants comprised students from the School of Medicine, who delved into a mock medical treatment centered around "ACS cases." Leveraging the advanced patient simulator, Body Interact, the session recreated lifelike pathological conditions, prompting in-depth discussions on diagnosis and drug administration within the group. In the interludes, Mr. Pedro and Professor Kaneko offered valuable insights, elucidating the nuances of responding in actual clinical settings. Simultaneously, as part of the broader cultural exchange program, students engaged in ClassQ, a course facilitated by Mina Matsumoto, a Visiting Professor at the General Education Center. This segment featured Mr. Pedro delivering a captivating talk titled "Talking about the history and culture of Portugal." Illustrated with slides and local photos, the presentation provided a window into Portuguese culture. The subsequent question and answer session revealed the students' keen interest, with inquiries spanning English discussions on life, medical practices, and Portugal's cultural tapestry. The ambiance remained serene yet dynamic throughout, making it a truly enriching experience to contemplate learning and education from a global standpoint.

This convergence of medical simulation and cultural dialogue underscored Teikyo University's commitment to holistic education, where practical skills meet a broader understanding of the world. As the institution continues to forge international partnerships, such events contribute significantly to preparing students for the interconnected challenges of the future.
