Teikyo University School of Medicine Students Embark on Transformative Medical Training in Vietnam

In a commendable pursuit of global medical proficiency, fifth-year students from Teikyo University School of Medicine recently undertook a five-day intensive program in Vietnam, spanning from July 17th to 21st, 2023. This initiative, facilitated through a collaborative credit transfer agreement between Teikyo University, Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, and Hanoi Medical University, aimed to provide invaluable insights into real-world infectious disease scenarios, ultimately informing their future medical practices. With an unwavering dedication to cultivate a cadre of medical professionals with a holistic, international perspective, the students immersed themselves in a comprehensive curriculum encompassing clinical training, global health, preventive medicine, and an in-depth exploration of medical systems.
At the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, students engaged in an illuminating journey through various clinical departments, gaining profound insights into medical equipment and the prevailing healthcare landscape in Vietnam. This hands-on clinical training offered them a unique vantage point to comprehend the challenges and opportunities within the Vietnamese healthcare system. Further enriching their experience, the students visited the Gene and Protein Research Center at Hanoi Medical University, where they received a captivating lecture from an infectious disease specialist, shedding light on the distinctive regional characteristics influencing medical practice. This session fostered a deeper appreciation for the complexities inherent in international healthcare.
Additionally, a visit to the JICA Vietnam office broadened their horizons on insurance policies, medical cooperation, and support initiatives in Vietnam. This exposure to the concerted efforts of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) exemplified the collaborative spirit driving global healthcare progress. Through this immersive training, students are poised to gain invaluable insights into infection control, international medical practices, and the nuanced healthcare landscape of Vietnam. This multifaceted approach is designed to equip them with a comprehensive understanding, positioning them as adept and empathetic global medical practitioners poised to address the evolving healthcare needs of our interconnected world.
