Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus played host to a spirited welcome party for incoming international students last Friday. This event showcased the institution's unique "buddy system," where international exchange assistants foster cross-cultural friendships while providing crucial support for navigating university life, mastering Japanese conversation, and acclimating to the learning environment. A total of 55 students, comprising 38 fresh international faces and 17 dedicated exchange assistants, partook in the day's festivities, gradually deepening their camaraderie through interactive group activities and games.

In a heartwarming conclusion to the event, Japanese students, serving as international exchange assistants, shared insights about their roles at OUCHI COMMONS—a hub for international and Japanese students to converge. They emphasized the enjoyment found in group dynamics and stressed the inclusivity of the space. "At OUCHI COMMONS, you'll engage with people speaking an array of languages, and find a welcoming community ready to assist with any challenges you may face. Don't hesitate to drop by. We're eager to foster even more connections with international students through gatherings like today's. Your presence is encouraged," they expressed. Reflecting on their experience, one of the international participants enthused, "This marked my inaugural international student event, and I was elated to receive valuable departmental information. Interacting with such a diverse array of people was truly enjoyable. I had the pleasure of attending with my buddy, and I'm eagerly anticipating our lunch together."
