Hachioji CampusNoted German Professor Collaborates with Teikyo University on Comparative Study

In late February to early March 2023, esteemed professor Dennis Kremer from the renowned University of Göttingen, established in 1737, graced Teikyo University's Hachioji campus for a two-week research residency. During this period, he engaged in academic exchange with Associate Professor Suzanne Burck of the Department of Global Japanese Studies within the Faculty of Language Studies.

Professor Kremer specializes in the field of Health and Sports Sociology. In March 2022, he organized the international conference, "Digital Technologies in the Covid-19-Pandemic: A Transnational Dialogue between Germany and Japan," where he facilitated discussions on the comparative use of digital technologies, including Covid-19 prevention apps, in Germany and Japan. The conference shed light on both the shared societal and cultural aspects, as well as the nuanced differences between the two nations. Professor Kremer is committed to furthering academic exchange with Japan and has expressed his intention to embark on collaborative research with Associate Professor Burck, comparing the two countries.

The Department of Global Japanese Studies offers a third-year compulsory course titled "Science, Technology, and Society," among others, delving into the study of Japan's industries. This approach provides students with a unique perspective on Japan's scientific and technological advancements within the global context. By actively fostering international academic exchanges, the faculty aims to enhance the learning environment for students, fostering a more enriching educational experience.
