Itabashi CampusFaculty and Students Recognized for Contributions to COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts in Fukushima

In a heartening development, Professor Kenzo Takahashi of Teikyo University's Graduate School of Public Health and a graduate student, Miki Suetajima, were honored by the city of Minamisoma in Fukushima Prefecture on February 24, 2023, for their exceptional contributions to the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Their unwavering dedication and support towards the vaccination initiative were acknowledged and lauded, leading to this well-deserved recognition.

Professor Takahashi has been actively involved in the vaccination efforts in Minamisoma since its inception in July 2021. His commitment to the cause was evident as he worked on-site right from the initial stages of the program. In the 2022 academic year, the scope of their engagement expanded to include pediatric vaccinations for children aged 5 to 12 and infant vaccinations for those aged 6 months to 5 years. Alongside Professor Takahashi, Miki Suetajima, and pediatrician Reishi Masuda, a graduate of the Graduate School of Public Health in 2022, also lent their expertise to the vaccination drive. Their collective efforts bore fruit as Minamisoma consistently ranked among the top-performing municipalities nationwide in terms of vaccination rates. Teikyo University remains dedicated to its ongoing collaboration with Minamisoma City, with a continued commitment to broader community engagement through the tireless efforts of its faculty, students, and graduate students.
