Hachioji CampusTeikyo University's International Sports Management Program with BVB: Fostering Future Industry Leaders

In a groundbreaking initiative, Teikyo University, in conjunction with their academic partner Borussia Dortmund (BVB), conducted a nine-day overseas sports management training program in Germany from February 14th (Tuesday) to the 22nd (Wednesday) for 23 of its students.

The program, hosted at BVB's home game stadium, Signal Iduna Park, provided invaluable insights into brand strategy, digital tactics, fan engagement, player development, collaboration with schools, the establishment of a women's team, and coordination with other sports. Students were also treated to enlightening tours of the stadium and training facilities. During the immersive fieldwork, student groups delved into research on topics including "Sports Management," "Multi-sports," "Development," and "Women in Sports." They reached out to facilities supporting Bundesliga 1 clubs and local sports, conducting interviews and engaging in street interviews with German citizens. Reflecting on their experiences, participants expressed sentiments such as, "The Germany program provided a precious opportunity for abundant learning and discoveries. As we kick off our third-year seminar activities, I was able to pinpoint what I truly aspire to do," and "This was a fulfilling training where I could leverage the knowledge and experience I have acquired in the Sports Management course to take on various challenges." Moving forward, Teikyo University will consolidate the insights gained from this program and conduct post-training workshops. Moreover, the Sports Business Theory course for the first half of 2023 will feature group presentations, allowing students to apply their newfound knowledge and skills. Teikyo University remains committed to creating opportunities for students to learn sports business through practical experiences.
