Itabashi CampusAfter a three-year hiatus Teikyo and Harvard experts team up for 11th annual special lecture, marking 30 years of academic partnership

Teikyo University welcomed esteemed faculty from Harvard University and the University of Oxford to its Itabashi Campus for the 11th Harvard Special Session from January 5th to 23rd, 2023. This special lecture series, based on an academic partnership between the two universities, was held face-to-face for the first time in three years.

The intensive course of five subjects was conducted as a lecture of Graduate School of Public Health and was also offered as a class subject for graduate students of each graduate school of medicine at Itabashi Campus. The lectures were led by Professor Murray Mittleman of Epidemiology, Professor Garrett Fitzmaurice of Biostatistics, Professor Ichiro Kawachi of Social Epidemiology, Associate Professor Jaime Hart of Occupational Environmental Health from Harvard University, and Professor Alastair Gray of Health Economics from the University of Oxford. Each of them is a leading expert in their respective specialty. During the lecture series, the attendees participated in a lively question-and-answer session, and small group discussions were held, giving them the same experience as if they were attending a lecture on site. The lecture was open to the public both inside and outside the university, and in addition to general participation, faculty members and students from all campuses of the university also participated. The event also saw participation from students of Chulalongkorn University and University of the Philippines, Manila. The Harvard Special Session, which began in 1994, has been an excellent platform for deepening exchanges in education and research, developing future human resources, and contributing to society. As the partnership between Teikyo University and Harvard University marks its 30th anniversary in 2023, the university is committed to further strengthening academic exchanges and research collaboration between the two institutions.
