Hachioji CampusSodateage-Net and Teikyo University Collaborate to Develop Future Leaders in Social Business Training Program

Teikyo University's Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Liberal Arts hosted a practical training program called the "Social Business Training" course to nurture human resources capable of playing an active role in local communities by attempting to solve various social issues through business. The program was conducted in collaboration with companies that operate social businesses, creating new social values in areas near the university, such as Tachikawa City, Hachioji City, and Tama City. Yongsook Lee, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology, and Hayato Kume, Part-time Lecturer of the same department, lead the course. On December 7, 2022, students enrolled in the "Social Business Training" course, along with Sodateage-Net, a certified NPO, held a tour of the Hachioji campus. Sodateage-Net users from various backgrounds, including those who had withdrawn from high school or graduated without a clear career path, participated in the program to create an opportunity for them to explore future options, such as college or employment. The program also aimed to create connections among young people that have become increasingly rare due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Upon arrival, participants were divided into groups for a tour of the campus, where students introduced the facilities, including classrooms, the Teikyo University Museum, and study spaces. The participants engaged in lively communication with the students throughout the tour. The program concluded with a visit to the student cafeteria, Soratio Kitchen, where all the participants gathered to experience the school cafeteria together. The participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to tour the campus, with one saying, "I had no idea what kind of place the university was, so it was good that I could get a feel for the atmosphere of the university through the campus tour." Another participant commented, "I would definitely like to attend classes." The "Social Business Training" course is part of Teikyo University's commitment to fostering future leaders capable of addressing societal challenges. The program's practical training, coupled with the campus tour, provides a unique opportunity for young people to explore their future paths while creating meaningful connections in their communities.
