On January 30, 2023 (Monday), Teikyo University (Chairman: OKINAGA Yoshihito) and Seibu Lions Co., Ltd. (President: Tsuyoshi Okumura, Headquarters: Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture) announced that they will strengthen the field of sports medicine and science. We have concluded a partnership on sports medical science support with the aim of managing the conditioning of athletes and creating an environment where each athlete can maximize their abilities. This agreement will work together from the 2023 season with the aim of "preventing injuries," "early recovery from injuries," and "improving performance." Our university will dispatch staff with various specialized fields from the Sports Medicine Center to establish a new "High Performance Group" within the Team Management Department of the Saitama Seibu Lions Baseball Team Headquarters.
The High Performance Group will comprehensively assess opinions from specialists in various fields related to injury treatment and post-injury injury prevention, and provide feedback to the players and staff on the optimal approach. The group will also aim to provide consistent support through a cycle of data measurement and evaluation through physical tests, planning and implementation of training based on the results. The group will be led by a "High Performance Director" dispatched from the university, and will include four team doctors, one physical therapist, one dietitian, and a new position for a "High Performance Analyst." The person in charge of that position will evaluate the players' performance based on physical and movement analysis data and will eventually guide the players in creating conditions to fully compete in the season, by checking recovery from fatigue and injury.
Furthermore, Teikyo University and Saitama Seibu Lions, in partnership with Athlete Med Inc., are set to open the "Lions Orthopedic Clinic" next spring, located across from the Belluna Dome. The team doctor of the Saitama Seibu Lions, dispatched from Teikyo University, will serve as the clinic's director and provide both support for the team and advanced medical services to the local community. The three organizations will work together to bring the latest insights in the field of sports medicine to not only the team, but also to the wider community. Athlete Med Inc., represented by President Masayuki Ishijima and headquartered in Kanda Sudacho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, will play a key role in this collaboration. The company's expertise and cutting-edge technology will be utilized to enhance the level of care provided at the clinic.
