Itabashi Campusstudents received the Student Award Excellence Award at the 266th Kanto-Koshinetsu Regional Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, Ryudai Shirato (fifth year School of Medicine student) received the Student Award for Excellence at the 266th Kanto Koshinetsu Regional Meeting of the Japanese Circulation Society. The Student Award is an award established by the Society, which has a history and tradition of more than 80 years, to encourage students to take an interest in cardiovascular medicine and conduct active research activities.

Ms. Shirato belongs to the laboratory of the School of Medicine Internal Medicine Department of Medicine Cardiology and has studied under the guidance of Ken Agatsuma Professor and Kumiko Konno Senior Assistant Professor in the same department, focusing on the analysis of diagnostic imaging and ECG deciphering for medical checkups. In the process, she deepened her understanding of medical checkups, especially for students who play sports, and learned the importance of receiving medical checkups and conducting medical checkups for cardiovascular diseases in sports, which resulted in her presentation of her abstract as a case report, and she received the Excellence Award.
On receiving the award, Ms. Shirato said, "I am very happy to receive the award. I was nervous and anxious about the on-site event, but with the advice and guidance I received from Dr. Konno, Dr. Agatsuma Professor, and many other professors, as well as the daily practice of my presentation and case report-related learning, I was able to go into my presentation with confidence". Dr. Konno (Senior Assistant Professor), who provided guidance for the students, commented, "I feel that it is wonderful that the students were able to learn the importance of undergoing medical checkups in the clinical setting amidst the growing popularity of sports, and to present what they learned at the conference and spread awareness of the importance of medical checkups. I hope that I can make use of this experience after becoming a doctor and help reduce the number of accidents that occur during sports.
As for her future aspirations, Ms. Shirato expressed her motivation, saying, "First of all, I would like to study hard for the national medical examination and collect medical examination data on the relationship between sports and cardiovascular medicine to further understand the relationship between sports and cardiovascular medicine and contribute to sports medicine.
