Hachioji CampusSaimukai Seminar is holding a seminar exhibition "Aiming for a Sustainable Society"

From November 28th (Monday) to December 22nd (Thursday), 2022, at the Teikyo University Museum, seminar students participated in the seminar "International Cooperation Seminar" led by Kenkako Nishimukai, Associate Professor of the Department of Faculty of Language Studies, Faculty of Foreign Studies, Teikyo University. We present the results of our research. In the international cooperation exercise "Creating a Sustainable Society (SDGs Seminar)", we will unravel the "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" adopted by the United Nations and work toward solving various global issues in Japan and overseas. I am working on literature research and social research.

In this exhibition, each fourth-year student focused on the issues they were interested in, set a theme, and summarized the results of their literature research on a single sheet. The research themes were wide-ranging, including "Japan refugee issues," "international cooperation and aid," "societies with a comfortable mind," "the role of food in regional revitalization," and "international education in school education," and the students searched the literature of previous research, acquired knowledge, and selected information on a single panel. Looking back on the creation of the panels, the students said, "It was difficult to identify the necessary information from the huge amount of information," and "There was a lot of information I wanted to write on the panels, and I struggled to adjust the balance between the text and the illustrations," and Nishimukai said Associate Professor praised the students, saying, "It would have been difficult to summarize what I understood in the literature survey while thinking about how to convey it to people and how to make it understood by the viewers, but I did my best."
From Thursday, December 1, in addition to the literature survey, there will be time to present the results of the social survey in the seminar, and the first time will be Uki Furuya (Faculty of Language Studies 4th year) and Miyu Kimura ( Faculty of Language Studies 4th year) gave a research presentation. As a social survey, the two presenters conducted a questionnaire survey on social media such as LINE, Instagram, and Twitter, gathered the opinions of a wide range of people from teenagers to those in their 60s and older, compared them with a literature survey, and drew conclusions. Mr. Furuya, who investigated the relationship between household income and sports, said of the "sports disparity," which is the disparity in the amount of time and money available for sports that occurs between the poor, middle class, and wealthy people, "About 26% of all people knew the content of the sports disparity. I concluded from literature research and social research. Dr. Kimura, who investigated abnormal weather, showed previous research that "there is a 95% probability that climate change is caused by anthropogenic factors," and based on the results of the questionnaire survey, "It is necessary for each person to recognize the impact of humanity on environmental destruction and take responsibility. The role of the media and education is also important." Associate Professor. Nishimakai said, "Students set research themes from familiar places, such as what they like, things they suddenly find in their daily lives, and things that are an extension of their classes, and I would like to value this intellectual curiosity."
Through research in the SDGs seminar, students commented that they were more willing to research news about the SDGs and that they were looking up companies that were actively working on the SDGs and were looking for a job, indicating that their behavior was changing. Teikyo University will continue to support students' research activities.
