Hachioji Campusheld the 4th Teikyo Ensemble Competition

On November 23, 2022 (Wednesday, holiday), the 4th Teikyo Ensemble Competition was held at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus Curiosity Hall. This ensemble competition is sponsored by the Teikyo University Alumni Association Cultural Affairs Bureau Brass Band Club. About 100 high school students from eight high schools participated in this fourth event.

On the day of the event, the students toured the university's facilities, including the school cafeteria Soratio Kitchen, Learning Commons ACT3, and the General Museum. Next, we had a body mapping session by Tomoo Yamazaki, a trombone player. Body mapping refers to "accurately creating a body map (the body map recognized in your brain)", and updating the image of the wrongly recognized body structure to the original body structure. We aim to make the best use of it in our performances. In the lecture, we used a human body model to explain the muscles, internal organs, and joint mechanisms. The members of the university's brass band club were actually modeled and instructed directly. Mr. Yamazaki said, "It feels strange to learn something new, but by repeating it hundreds of times, you can make it a habit. Observe your body carefully and update it little by little every day. It's important," a message was sent to high school students.
Subsequently, a competition was held with 21 teams from 8 high schools. The judges were Tsuneaki Takeshima, director of the university's brass band, Tomoo Yamazaki, a trombone player, Shinji Horio, a timpani and percussion player, and Hiroyuki Nogami, a band director and trumpet player. and gave a wonderful performance. At the end, the judging results were announced, and Director Takeshima expressed his gratitude to the high school students who participated.
The students of the university's brass band club are in charge of overall planning and operation of the competition, from advance preparations such as setting up the venue to reception, guidance, progress, and stage setting on the day of the competition. It was a precious opportunity. Thank you to all the high school students who participated and everyone involved.

On Sunday, December 25, 2022, the university brass band club will hold a regular concert at Curiosity Hall on the Hachioji Campus of the university. Please come by all means.
