The Hachioji CampusKaratedo Club Achieved "4 Crowns" in All 4 Events at the All Japan University Karatedo Championships

On Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the 66th All Japan University Karatedo Championship held at Nippon Budokan (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), the Teikyo University Karatedo Club competed in men's group kata, women's group kata, and men's group kumite. , won all four divisions of the women's team kumite, and achieved the second quadruple crown for the first time in 14 years. The year before last was canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and last year it was held without spectators, so this tournament, which was held for the first time in three years with an audience, won the women's team kata for the 12th consecutive time, and the men's team kata. won three consecutive victories, and team kumite won two consecutive victories. Since 2017, the women's group kumite had only finished third, but it won the championship for the first time in five years.

In the match, fist pumps when scoring goals and excessive vocalization by players were considered fouls, and since the ultimate goal was to win the championship, the students' expressions did not change significantly until the final was over. However, the students, who usually do not show tears, responded to the applause of the audience with their eyes red at the moment of victory, because they were injured and had a strong desire to win. After the award ceremony, the students shared their joy with their parents and graduates who had traveled from afar. Masao Kagawa, a member of the Karate Club at our university, commented on the achievement of the four crowns for the first time in 14 years, saying, "These four crowns are not only for the students who participated in the competition, but also for the students and graduates who did not participate in the competition, their families, coaches, advisors, The victory was achieved by everyone, including the doctors who gave advice on treatment and nutrition, and the university staff,” he said with a gentle smile.

The 4th grade will retire at the end of this tournament, but the team power that has been built up so far will be a great asset for juniors and will lead to expectations for the new team. We look forward to your continued support of the Karatedo Club.
