A graduate of the Department of Sport and Medical Science was dispatched as a trainer to the 24th Summer Deaflympics Competition.

Three graduates of Teikyo University Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science will be trainers of the Japanese team at the 24th Summer Deaflympics Competition held in Cassias Dossul, Brazil, from Sunday, May 1st to Sunday, May 15th, 2022. I was dispatched. Atsuro Okano (graduated from the Department of Sport and Medical Science 2012) was in charge of badminton, Kazuki Komorizono (graduated from the Department of Sports Department of Sport and Medical Science 2012) was in charge of table tennis, and Yuka Ito (graduated from the Department of Sport and Medical Science 2018) was in charge of soccer.
The Deaflympics is the first international sporting event for the Deaf, held in France in 1924 for the Summer Games and in Austria in 1949 for the Winter Games. Participants deepen their friendship through communication in international sign language. There is a big feature in the place where it is done. Graduates were able to contribute as staff to this historic tournament. Our university will continue to support the success of graduates.

Mr. Okano's comment
I accompanied him as a trainer for the badminton competition at the 24th Summer Deaflympics Competition. It was a tournament where it was more difficult to manage the condition of the players because it was held in Brazil, which requires long travel, and in the environment of Korona-ka, but it was the first badminton team to win a silver medal in a team battle. I am very happy as a staff member. Also, at the Deaflympics, I was able to interact with Deaf people from other sports organizations and Deaf people from around the world, and I was able to reaffirm the importance of not only language but also communication in sign language and recognition of diversity in society. rice field. The next Deaflympics in 2025 is being invited to be held for the first time in Japan. I hope that the awareness of the Deaflympics in Japan will improve as much as possible toward the next tournament, and I will continue to do my best with the players so that I can achieve better results than this tournament.
