Environment and Energy Symposium:The Tensions in the Middle East and the International Energy Order: Risks and Challenges to Stable Supply

Date and time

Friday, September 11, 2026 13:25-17:05

Overview

The rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the instability around the Strait of Hormuz, are having a serious impact on the stable energy supply of Japan and the world. The unrest in the Middle East, a major energy supply region, is shaking international markets and creating cascading risks to the economies and industrial activities of Japan and East Asia.
Under these circumstances, we will hold a lecture to accurately grasp the essence and structure of the Middle East crisis and to consider medium- to long-term challenges and responses in the international community, including Japan, such as strengthening energy security, diversifying supply sources, and accelerating decarbonization.
