Overview

Koala Cafe® is a support program for school-aged children (elementary school age) and adults who have been informed that a loved one (hereinafter referred to as "adult") has been diagnosed with cancer. The program aims to help children gain accurate knowledge about cancer and its treatment, enabling them to cope with the changes in their lives caused by the adult's cancer diagnosis and to control their own emotions.
Sharing your feelings with others who have had similar experiences can help alleviate feelings of loneliness.
Furthermore, the adults themselves share the common experience of raising children while either suffering from cancer or caring for a family member with cancer. Sharing these experiences and worries with other adults can help stabilize their emotions, which is expected to have the effect of allowing children to live more calmly.
Our staff, who are qualified medical professionals and have received specialized training, provide support tailored to each individual's situation and characteristics, serving as a "safe haven" for parents and children.

Teacher Masako Minamikawa, Yuko Miki, and Yoko Furuya (Professor Department Department of Nursing Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University)
Yasuyo Fukushi (Assistant Professor Department of Nursing Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University)
