Overview

When you hear the word "poison," what image comes to mind? Scary? Dangerous? Or perhaps something that piques your interest? In fact, the "poisons" produced by living things are not just dangerous; they are also important sources of clues to understanding the body's mechanisms and the basis for new medicines.
This program focuses particularly on snake venom, and through experiments and hands-on activities, participants will learn in a fun way about questions such as, "Why do snakes use venom?", "What are the components of venom?", and "Is it true that multiple components work together, not just one?".
Using experimental equipment found in university research labs, students will explore the invisible nature of poisons and consider how to weaken their effects. Furthermore, they will learn through practical exercises what to do if they encounter a venomous snake. This day is designed to let students experience the joy of science and the satisfaction of discovery through a cycle of "knowing → thinking → experiencing." Perhaps this experience will inspire you to make a groundbreaking discovery as a future researcher.
