French historian Bruno Cabanes, a rising star in the field, will discuss the Battle of Peleliu, considered one of the most brutal ground battles of the Pacific War, based on Japanese and American documents and testimonies, as well as the latest on-site research, to reveal its true nature and lessons learned.
Senior Assistant Professor Introduction
After studying at the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in France and earning a doctorate from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University in Paris 1, he taught at Yale University. He later became Professor at Ohio State University. He has authored important works in the field of military history, including "La victoire endeuillée" and "Un siècle de réfugiés, une histoire de la guerre, du XIXe siècle à nos jours." In 2025, he published "Les fantômes de l'île de Peleliu" (Seuil, in the "Fiction & Cie" collection).
