Since the establishment of the Graduate School in 2009, Teikyo University Graduate School Graduate School of Teacher Education has held the Teikyo University Graduate School of Teacher Education Forum every year to provide a place for the public to widely disclose the results of daily educational practices and research results, and to make use of the results in future education and research.
In 2014, Japan ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, marking a major shift toward realizing a society in which people with and without disabilities can live together. Article 24 of the Convention addresses "inclusion in education," advocating for the creation of spaces in which all children can learn together. In recent years, Japan has seen the publication of various reports and expert conferences aimed at realizing inclusive education. Despite measures aimed at realizing a society in which people with and without disabilities can learn together, it is difficult to say that individual teachers' awareness of special needs education has improved. Furthermore, in 2022, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities conducted a review and issued recommendations regarding Japan's efforts toward inclusive education, making the enhancement and development of special needs education a pressing issue.
This forum will invite people from various positions who have been involved in supporting people with disabilities, and together with everyone in the audience, we will consider, from the perspective of "Think Globally, Act Locally," the importance of teachers' sense of ownership in special needs education and the role of schools in realizing an inclusive society.
