Hachioji CampusKendo Club held a Kendo experience for Teikyo University Kindergarten students.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, our Teikyo University Martial Arts Center Kendo Club invited Teikyo University Kindergarten students to try out kendo at the Teikyo University Sogo Budokan (Hachioji City, Tokyo). This event, which was suspended due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection, resumed last year and is now in its 6th year.

Led by students enrolled in the teacher's degree course, the students were divided into small groups of less than 10 people, starting with polite greetings and basic movements such as footwork and practice swings.A member of the group stayed with each group to instruct the children. As a final summary, the children competed in a game-like competition in which they cut newspapers with sticks shaped like bamboo swords, giving them a chance to experience the fun of kendo amidst the loud cheers of the observing parents.
With the cooperation of the kindergarten teachers, parents, and other stakeholders, we were able to hold the Kendo class safely. Our university will continue to create valuable opportunities for students and kindergarteners to interact.
