I visited Case Western Reserve University (USA) with the support of AMED. In order to strengthen Japan-U.S. collaboration, AMED signed a memorandum of cooperation with the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2016, and is working with the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to collaborate in the field of infectious diseases. As part of this effort, our university is working to promote collaboration between projects supported by AMED and NIAID.

Associate Professor Saegusa and Professor Mahmoud Ghannoum of Case Western Reserve University, a world-leading researcher in infectious disease research targeting bacteria and fungi, have been conducting joint research for many years, and this visit There was a lively exchange, including presentations on the subject and discussions with Professor Ghannoum, researchers, and students. In the future, we plan to combine Professor Ghannoum's clinical microbiological research with Associate Professor Saegusa's metabolome analysis research using mass spectrometry, and plan to conduct joint research to help prevent new infectious diseases, as well as international exchange through research. The project is expected to contribute to improving the university's international research capabilities.
