Professor Nakayama Sheds Light on Micronesia's Coffee Renaissance in NHKBS Premium Documentary

On March 11, 2023 (Saturday), Professor Kyoko Nakayama from the Faculty of Education at Teikyo University will appear on the NHK BS Premium program "Coffee Operation on a Small Island - Rota Island, Micronesia." Rota Island, a naturally abundant island in Micronesia, has been severely impacted by the tourism industry due to COVID-19, facing a crisis. This is the story of the islanders, who, with empty hands, attempt to cultivate wild coffee to contribute to the recovery. Professor Nakayama will provide a historical explanation about the mystery of "Why are there coffee trees in the jungle of Rota Island? Who planted them?" Please be sure to watch.
