In 2001, for the first time in Japan, the fungus that causes the Australian tropical cryptococcosis, which is the main cause of death for koalas kept in captivity, was discovered in koalas at Tama Zoological Park. Since then, for more than 20 years, we have carried out fungal disease tests on almost all koalas in Japan, protecting the lives of koalas. He was the first in the world to develop and commercialize a genetic diagnosis method for this disease, and also succeeded in treating it. In June 2022, we concluded a basic agreement on collaboration and cooperation with Tama Zoological Park to co-create academic research and Community Engagement activities. "Yokabai gymnastics" was devised as a preventive long-term exercise for the purpose of strength training that can be done at home. Two facilities for children, Teikyo Kids Room and Teikyo Kids Field, have opened in the dome area of Met Life Dome (Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture), the home of Saitama Seibu Lions.
