Tutors for International Students

Friendly help and advice for international students

The Tutors for International Students provides international students at Teikyo University with support and assistance to help them acclimatize to their new environs and ensure that their time at the university is both enjoyable and valuable. One of the key roles of the scheme is to facilitate interaction between international students and their local counterparts at Teikyo University.

Background

Most of us are familiar with the mixture of enjoyment and trepidation at coming into a strange environment without knowing anyone. Many international students at Teikyo University are quite young, having come to Japan directly after finishing high school, and for a large number of students it will be their first experience living away from home. On top of this, the pronounced differences in culture, language and customs can be quite stressful for some.

Learning to adapt to a new environment and discovering different ideas and value systems is certainly a formative and valuable experience, but it can also be very difficult without the proper support structures in place. Tutors for International Students are local students who are dedicated to helping new international students acclimatize to their new surroundings so that they can make the most of their studies and enjoy their time in Japan.

Events and activities

The Tutors for International Students organize a full calendar of events throughout the year, beginning with orientation sessions in April for newly arrived students, ongoing friendly advice and guidance, and regular parties and events to mark the four seasons of the year.
