Medical Technology(Doctoral and Master's Degree Programs)
Division of Orthoptics
The main work of the orthoptist is assumed to be the examination of and training to relieve strabismus and amblyopia, as well as examinations connected with ophthalmology departments. The nature of ophthalmological treatment has changed greatly in recent years, and ophthalmic examination techniques have become extremely diverse; thus, there is a great social need to train orthoptists with advanced skills. Current undergraduate courses simply do not afford students the necessary time to gain a thorough mastery of orthoptics. The Division of Orthoptics of the Medical Technology Graduate School consists of a part one doctoral program (a master's degree program) in general orthoptics, offering training for advanced specialists, and a part two doctoral program aiming at further advanced specialist work through intensive specialization in a specific aspect of either orthoptics or ophthalmic examination, leading to the development of research personnel in these fields. Assignment to teaching staff currently engaged in research work, and who also have rich clinical experience in the field, is intended to enhance the development of advanced specialist personnel or researchers, which is the target of this program.
