Although medicine consists of the basics of medical treatment, such as diagnosis and treatment, it also has the special feature that actual daily situations are much more closely related to academic study than other fields. Whereas it is important to achieve research results in medical research, the research process also affords good opportunities to perceive attitudes towards the patient, and phenomena and facts which form the background to diagnosis and treatment. Fundamental aspects of becoming a medical doctor are building and instilling the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a hands-on medical practitioner; however, research experience further enhances a doctor's ability. The valuable experience of a research period will result in not only the conferral of a de facto doctoral degree, but also high appraisal as a medical doctor.
