Department of Aerospace Engineering
The Department's top priority is the acquisition of the fundamental expertise required for employment as researchers and engineers, and helping students to gain, through experiments, a strong foundation in theory and the ability to apply it. With a curriculum that stresses the basics, the Department strongly promotes students' understanding of such subjects as mathematics, physics, information science, and chemistry. In addition to the usual lab courses in fundamental and aerospace engineering, the Department places special emphasis on courses and internship programs for hands-on experience through experiments with jet engines and helicopters, tours of aerospace engineering factories, and on-the-job exercises in these factories. Thanks to the generous collaboration of three leading aerospace engineering companies in Japan, these practical courses and internship programs provide students ample opportunity for hands-on work with aircraft and parts and to familiarize themselves with aerospace engineering. The Department organizes students into small groups in accordance with their career choices, offers focused guidance on their graduation thesis, and encourages hands-on exercises and experiments through internship programs. Students are trained to become engineers with a good reputation, with a positive future outlook, and competent enough to be immediately effective. The Department also sponsors a large number of non-curricular events aiming to stimulate students to develop inquiring minds.
