Department of Orthoptics

An ideal environment is provided for training orthoptists with humanity, knowledge, and skill. This department aims to foster orthoptists with a rich sense of humanity and a high level of knowledge and skill indispensable for ophthalmological treatment in the future, making full use of a comprehensive curriculum that only a four-year university can provide and an excellent location adjoining the University Hospital. Clinical training, in-house training, and lectures at Teikyo University Hospital, one of the largest in Japan in terms of strabismus and amblyopia patients and the number of strabotomies, will assist students in acquiring high-level skills immediately applicable in authentic clinical treatment situations. In the third year, with the aim of attaining higher levels of knowledge, skill, and observational ability, specialist training crucial for orthoptists is given, including the operation of testing equipment, and the ability to comprehend the significance and reliability of test results. In the fourth year, students are helped to form a realistic perception of the vocation of the medical treatment practitioner through hospital training. Success in Japanese national qualification examinations is also increased through mock examinations and explanatory lectures.
