Department of Medicine
This department aims to train doctors who are conversant with the wide range of medical treatments required in contemporary society. An international outlook (English language education), a superior sense of ethics, advanced communications skills, and a spirit of independence are fostered in order to nurture exemplary clinicians. A comprehensive curriculum has also been devised to train practical and all-round clinicians with a solid grounding in fundamental science. Basic medicine is studied in the second and third years and, in the third and fourth years, social and clinical medicine is covered, each area being built up through repetitive study techniques. At the same time, interdisciplinary courses on a variety of specific themes, including basic clinical skills, are also offered. Student evaluation enabling progress to the following year of study includes scores on a comprehensive examination taken at the end of each academic year. Experiments, practicums, and seminars make up a large part of the program, and independent study courses are also offered. In the final year, an overseas clinical training course, an extremely practical internship involving a clinical training course, and integrated lectures are offered with the aim of developing all-round clinicians imbued with basic knowledge, attitudes and skills.
