Department of Japanese Culture
Education in the Department of Japanese Culture covers both cultural heritage and contemporary Japanese culture. The notion of gcultureh is closely associated with many different fields, and is not being simply limited to literature, fine arts, and performing arts, but also involves fields such as politics, economics, and science and technology. This department takes a very wide perspective, using a free and all-encompassing approach, in perceiving the past and contemporary situation in Japan, and in exploring the significance of Japanese culture in the future global culture. The student will be aided to develop the ability to examine the many different forms of culture that the Japanese people have created from their way of life from a wide range of angles and views. An extremely competent team of professors will guide the student carefully and thoroughly from the elementary stage through to the deeper reaches of the multi-layered Japanese culture, literature, and language using a variety of approaches. Graduates will be able to take advantage of a wide range of career opportunities, such as Japanese language or calligraphy teachers, museum curators, librarians, overseas teachers of Japanese as a foreign language, as well as careers in publishing and mass communications.
