Department of Language Studies | Teikyo University
This new department was established by integrating the Department of Anglo-American Language and Culture and the Department of Intercultural Studies, which were split from the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Students entering this department will first select a compulsory major language course from among English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean. Students will then also select a different optional language from among English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Russian. Students will determine which subjects they will take from the regional subject group, which pertain to the linguistic and cultural region of the selected gmajor language,h and also courses not linked to any specific region from the super-regional group of subjects. Students will be able to build authentic and practical linguistic competence through an integrated approach of studying languages together with multifaceted cultural research. In addition, from the second year, students will participate in seminars where they will choose individual themes related to their language study from the cultural region of their major language. In this way, the notion of studying simply to acquire linguistic skills is overcome, and specialist education deepened as students uncover new interests and develop an awareness of problems for themselves.
