Department of Physical Therapy

Departent of Physical Therapy

Physical therapists, who occupy a layer in the hierarchy of medical professionals, are also expected to work in collaboration with other medical professionals, using their expertise and knowledge to the fullest extent. The four-year curriculum offered by the Department encompasses studies on very diverse subjects, all of which are indispensable for preparing students to become competent professional physical therapists. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of physical therapy to make them aware of the basic human qualifications required of individuals wishing to pursue a career in health care, medical services, and welfare services so that they will become well versed in the basics of physical therapy. Based on the conviction that expertise derives from a combination of skills and the human mind, as well as a human-centered educational standpoint that emphasizes the importance of the human mind, the Department offers a series of basic classes designed to improve the character of the student. The Department also places emphasis on enabling students to acquire knowledge and skills through practical experience in clinical institutions and to engage in intensive practice that enables them to further probe research themes that they may find interesting during clinical practice. In order to train internationally minded physical therapists well adapted to the era of internationalization, the Department offers overseas training classes, a tour and practice in hospitals and other medical institutions, and a conversational English course at Teikyo University Group's Denver Campus in the United States.
